HD-50 Special Election: Rico Reyes

In keeping up with our HD-50 special election information, we are posting snapshots of the 4 candidates information and policy issues.

Rico Reyes (D)
 



  • Reyes is a Harvard and UT Business and Law School alum, U.S. Marine veteran, and attorney.
  • His previous political experience includes working as Assistant District Attorney for Travis County.
  • Reyes has also worked with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Veterans’ Intervention Project. He also still serves in the Marine Reserves. 
  • Reyes calls his core issues the “Pillars of the American Dream.” They include public education, healthcare, and middle-class jobs. Making education a priority is important to Reyes. He also believes making it easier for people to start small businesses and recruit employees is critical to develop industry in District 50.
  • When asked about the first bill he would file, Reyes responded: “A Texas Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act would go a long way to ensure women get equal pay for equal work.” Reyes says he will work to make the American Dream possible for everyone.
