HD-50 Special Election: Mike VanDeWalle

In keeping up with our HD-50 special election information, we are posting snapshots of the 4 candidates information and policy issues.

Mike VanDeWalle (R)

  • VanDeWalle is an Austin Chiropractor and businessman.
  • VanDeWalle does not appear to have any prior political experience. However, he has served as chairman on the War on Drugs Committee for the Balcones Lions Club and as Education Chair for the Capitol Area Texas Association of Business.
  • VanDeWalle’s core issues include stopping the Affordable Healthcare Act and government regulation, lower taxes, and spending cuts.
  • To help with job creation, VanDeWalle believes cutting government regulations and keeping taxes low are necessary to economic growth and district success.
  • When asked about the first bill he would file, VanDeWalle responded: “The number of regulations standing between my patients and me is an undue burden that all doctors and small businesses have experienced. My first legislative priority is to address removing these regulations so we can do our jobs efficiently.” VanDeWalle believes his firsthand knowledge of running a small business allows him to better understand what it takes to create jobs.
